Since May 14, 2003, an official groundbreaking occured in the northeastern corner of Fort Bend County where the proposed Fort Bend Parkway is being constructed. Originally listed on TxDOT highway planning maps as State Highway 122 (the defunct Bay City Freeway), this project dates back to 1961; more info can be found at this website.
Facing north towards H-town
Facing south (the two hi-voltage utility towers were raised several feet above ground level - this area of the Fort Bend/Houston Super Neighborhood is home to several TV transmitter towers. The City of Houston has jurisdiction on the land where the transmitter towers are located - they are currently used by ABC13, KPRC Channel 2, and KHOU 11. A brief trivial note - one of the 2000-foot tall towers located near Quail Glen collapsed in 1983, which was used by KTXH-TV, now UPN20 (since 1995) in Houston, TX. The tower (not seen in the pic) was rebuilt in 1984. One thing I didn't know until recently - the hi-voltage right-of-way heading south is located to the right of the Fort Bend Tollway center line.
The overpass seen in the background is the Sam Houston Tollway - in real life, it's the border between Harris and Fort Bend County. (Pic archive - 9.15.01)
Take a look @ these pics - the one above snapped on 9.15.01 and a recent pic (8.7.03) - the first pic shows a 'ghost' embankment which was part of the abandoned Bay City Expressway a.k.a. State Highway 122. The embankment was bulldozed in Spring 2002 for the newly-planned Chasewood Meadows cul-de-sac community, another arrival for ex-renters from Southwest Houston's apartments and/or the Inner Loop.
